Before
you even think about going on a diet, first work out your Body Mass Index
(BMI). The BMI allows you to draw conclusions about your weight-related
risk of heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure. ![]() e.g. for a woman that is 165cm tall and weighs 55kg; ![]() ![]() In accordance with a more recent definition , a BMI value between 25 and 29.9 means that the person concerned is overweight. Some very muscular people can, however, certainly have a higher BMI value without being overweight for that reason. In the case of young people, calculation of the value often wrongly leads to values in the «obesity», range. Healthy people mostly fall into the lowest BMI category, but it can be seen from the table below that by itself a low BMI is not a guarantee of a good state of health .
