The
fluids in your body, especially the blood plasma, the cytoplasm and the
fluid that moves around the cells (extracellular fluid), have an almost
constant concentration of dissolved particles. This is the concentration at which all transport proceeds most easily. This includes, for example, the oxygen transport by the red blood corpuscles or the absorption of nutrients and oxygen from the blood plasma into the muscle cells. Only when they reach the muscle cell are the nutrients transformed into energy. In order for a fluid from the inside of the intestine (intestinal lumen) to be taken up by the intestinal cells as efficiently as possible and for it to be able to be transported from there into the blood plasma, this fluid must be as similar as possible to the body fluid. If the number of dissolved particles is the same as that of the body fluids (between 270 and 330 mOsm/kg), then this type of fluid is referred to as isotonic. ![]() Isotonic fluids can contain dissolved minerals, sugar or proteins. In order for an isotonic fluid to become an ideal sports drink, it is necessary to take into account the needs of the muscle during the exertion. The most important factor for the muscle is an adequate supply of energy and water. The easiest energy providers to utilise are carbohydrates. Since minerals such as sodium, chlorine, potassium, calcium and magnesium are lost due to sweating, it is important to replace the minerals concerned so as to keep the muscle fit for an extended period of time. ISOSTAR Fast Hydration was developed on the strength of various clinical studies. It represents a sports drink based on physiological facts that creates the optimum conditions for the hydration, energy provision and mineral compensation during sports activities. Drinks with 6 to 7% carbohydrates pass through the stomach fastest and are therefore also quickly resorbed in the intestine and made available to the working muscles. Your digestive tract is also able to take up water when you drink fluids that are not isotonic. Healthy kidneys can remove minerals and water from the blood circulation (or retain them in it). For your body, however, the easiest and most efficient way is to absorb an isotonic solution. During sports activity in particular, some body functions only work to a limited extent. For example, it is almost impossible for your digestive system to digest a large meal during a run. In this case, an isotonic sports drink offers an effective and extremely well tolerated way of providing your body with nourishment and water. |
